ٍSuez Canal : MSC WORLD EUROPA crosses the world’s newest cruise ship on its maiden voyage
Crossing of 69 ships from both directions, with a total net tonnage of 3.6 million tons, including the tourist yacht Katara and the yacht Le jacques cartier.
Admiral Osama Rabie,Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority ( SCA ), announced today, Thursday, the crossing of the giant passenger ship “MSC WORLD EUROPA”, the latest cruise ship in the world, on its first cruise through the Suez Canal as part of the North Convoy during its next voyage from Spain to the United Arab Emirates.
Chairnan of the authority ordered to take all necessary measures to ensure safe passage through the appointment of a group of senior pilots, and the provision of navigational aids from accompanying locomotives, in addition to instant follow-up from the main traffic office and pilotage stations along the canal.
In accordance with the protocol followed by SCA in dealing with ships transiting the canal for the first time, Admiral Osama Rabie, delegated Captain Hisham Fawzy, an excellent pilot, and Captain Mohamed Rushdi pilot to board the passenger ship and welcome its crew, and hand over a souvenir to the captain of the ship.
Osama Rabie confirmed the Suez Canal’s readiness to receive the latest ships of the world fleet thanks to the new Suez Canal project, which allowed to increase the numerical and absorptive capacity of the canal and raise its global navigational classification
Chairman of the authority indicated that the indicators related to the transit of cruise ships and yachts through the Suez Canal have witnessed a remarkable rise in recent times,
Stressing the authority’s keenness to provide many facilities to encourage the docking of cruise ships in Egyptian ports as part of the efforts made to encourage tourism.
On the other hand Captain Marco Massa expressed his appreciation for the distinguished navigation services provided by the Suez Canal Authority during his cruise through the canal, and the tangible cooperation he witnessed from the SCA Pilots, noting that it is scheduled to stop at Ain Sukhna port for the disembarkation of 167 passengers.
