Rabie : Crossing 1.4 million ships, with a total net tonnage of 32.4 billion tons over the course of 153 years
Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority ” SCA “, stated today, Thursday, that the navigation statistics in the Suez Canal recorded, since its opening on November 17, 1869, the transit of about 1.4 million ships, with a total net tonnage of 32.4 billion tons, and the quantities of goods estimated at about 26 billion tons between East and West, to reflect the strategic importance enjoyed by the canal over the past 153 years within the global trade movement system.
For more than a century and a half, the Suez Canal managed to generate huge revenues amounting to $155.4 billion, and it remains to this day one of the most important foreign exchange resources for the state treasury.
