On Sunday morning, the coasts of Ras Ghareb, north of the Red Sea, witnessed the sinking of a Saudi car transporting ship in the Gulf of Suez, and the competent authorities were informed to take the necessary action.
Saudi ro-ro cargo ship ALNAWA EXPRESS is understood to run aground at around 0420 UTC Aug 14 north of Ras Gharib, Egypt, Gulf of Suez, while en route from Suez to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with cargo of cars on board.
According to report, the ship suffered mechanical failure and had to anchor, later she drifted aground in stormy conditions. Problem was fixed, the ship was refloated and resumed voyage at around 1100 UTC Aug 14.
The Saudi ship “Al-Nawawi Express” ran aground in the Zafarana area after leaving the shipping lane, and it was called from Al-Adabiya station, Ghareb station, and the cruising ships. The ship did not respond to the call until it was fully loaded, and it was reported to Center 66, Center 11, Search and Rescue Center and Marine Ras Ghareb.
On the other hand The Red Sea Ports Authority stated that the ship arrived at Port Tawfiq port in Suez on Friday, loaded with 775 cars and 2 gallons, and left Port Tawfik port yesterday, Saturday, carrying 30 cars weighing 60 tons, heading to the Saudi port of Jeddah. The ship is being flotation with the knowledge of the shipping agency.
