The strategy aims to achieve sustainable, low-emissions economic growth in various sectors, build resilience and adaptability to climate change and mitigate the negative impacts associated with it, enhance governance and management of work in the field of climate change, improve climate finance infrastructure, and enhance the role of scientific research and technology.
The strategy will be implemented in partnership between the Egyptian government, civil society, youth, women, the private sector, and development partners, starting in the priority sectors, namely renewable energy, sustainable transport, water, irrigation, agriculture, and carbon reduction for the petroleum sector and heavy industries.
The minister also talked about Egypt’s preparations to host the next climate conference COP27 organizationally and logistically, and the executive position of the political and technical aspect, including defining the topics of the unofficial days of the conference, including energy, carbon reduction, women, civil society and youth, water, adaptation, financing, and political consultations with States and stakeholders, in addition to preparing a set of initiatives to be launched at the conference in the areas of agriculture, food security, water, finance, waste, gender equality, equitable energy transition, sustainable cities, ecosystem-based approach, and sustainable transport.
