Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, met with the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Federation of Electronic Sports ( IESF ) headed by Sherif Abdel Baqi; To discuss the Federation’s preparations to launch a series of competitions and tournaments during the coming period and preparations for international tournaments.
The meeting dealt with the arrangements related to launching the first major local esports championship for the “Free Fire” game in Egypt under the slogan “Free FIRE: The Battle of Egypt”, which will be held over the months of August and September 2022 AD, and the total prizes amount to 500,000 Egyptian pounds.
Minister of Youth and Sports reiterated his emphasis on the widespread spread of electronic games among young people, its role in the development and programming of electronic games industry, and its contribution to the growth of the economy in terms of the value of direct sales, encouraging innovation and creativity, and developing technology.
On the other hand Sherif Abdel-Baqi, President of the Electronic Sports Federation, thanked the Minister of Youth and Sports for the great support of the Electronic Games Federation during the last period, stressing that the Federation is keen to intensify electronic competitions in a number of games at the level of the governorates of the Republic.
Abdel-Baqi added that the coming period will witness a great boom at the level of electronic sports in Egypt, based on the cooperation between the Federation, the Ministry, organizers, players and some other institutions, to organize many tournaments.
IESF is promoting Esports as a true sport beyond barriers, working on behalf of our member nations from all across the globe.
The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr. Sonia Abdel Wahab, Head of the Central Administration for Sports Development, Mohamed Abdel Nabi, Head of the Central Administration for Information Systems and Digital Transformation, Treasurer of the E-Sports Federation, Dr. Amr El-Haddad, Assistant Minister, and Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Director General of the General Administration of Quality Unions.
Muhammad Warda, Umniah Yahya, Rashid Al-Muzaini and Abdullah Jamal, members of the Board of Directors, and Mahmoud Attia, director of the Federation, also attended from the Board of Directors of the Electronic Games Federation.
