Evergreen Line has placed an additional order for three of the world’s largest 24000TEU container ships at Hudong Zhonghua, bringing the number of 24000TEU-class super-large ships it has ordered at two shipyards of CSSC to nine.
This week Evergreen announced that on behalf of the board of directors of its subsidiary Evergreen Marine (Asia) Pte. Ltd., it decided to order three 24000TEU container ships. The cost of each new ship is US $160-190 million, and the total transaction amount is US $500-550 million (about RMB 3.173-3.490 billion).
Although Evergreen did not disclose the specific delivery time, the industry estimates that the three ships may not be delivered until 2025.
Together with the latest three, Evergreen has ordered a total of seven 24000TEU container ships in Hudong Zhonghua. In November 2019, Evergreen ordered four 24000TEU container ships in CSSC for the first time, and Hudong Zhonghua and Jiangnan Shipyard won two respectively. In June 2021, Evergreen ordered two more ships.
