2019 was a defining year for Øino. In September, he unveiled the 183m REV Ocean, a ground-breaking hybrid
Definitely, there is no word impossible except in the dictionary of the week The World recognized designer and naval architect, Espen Øino is the man behind some of the most iconic superyachts. Inspired by a young age, Øino set his interests on anything floating; ships, boats, and sailing boats.
He smashes the impossible of achieving his childhood dream by graduating in naval architecture in Normandy and started to work for UK designer, Martin Francis. By chance, the studio got an inquiry which leads to becoming Øino’s first-ever motor yacht. He ended up as project manager on the legendary ECO project (now known as ZEUS).
After eight years, Øino founded his own technical and design office in Monaco, specializing in yacht design, naval architecture, and engineering.
Espen Øino International has a prominent client profile stretching all over the globe from South America to Eastern Europe. He is considered to be one of the world’s leading design studios for custom motor yachts. When asked what his design process is, he answers that his first starting point is establishing a clear brief so both parties have a common understanding of the desires and requirements of the client. Øino’s success is how he manages expectations, establishes priorities, and finds the balance between each space on board.
In partnership with Espen Øino, Imperial has delivered many recognizable superyachts such as the fantastic ARKLEY (60m), the highly detailed and luxurious AMADEA (106.10m), and the magnificent FLYING FOX (136m). As said by Øino, “working with Imperial has been a real eye-opener. The level of experience, professionalism, and reactivity reflects and explains their success in the marketplace. We look forward to continuing our fruitful and productive relationship for many years to come”.
2019 was a defining year for Øino. In September, he unveiled the 183m REV Ocean, a ground-breaking hybrid explorer which dethroned the 180m Azzam as the world’s largest yacht. Then, in December, Øino announced that he was working with Ocean Residences on an even bigger project, Njord. Named after the Norse god of wind and sea, and featuring 118 luxury residences, this mammoth 282m floating home has been dubbed ‘the next generation of superyacht’.
“The Njord project represents a significant departure from what we normally do, but it has been an interesting journey so far,” says Øino. “Working on a project of this scale is not only breathtaking, it is also very interesting and rewarding. High-end floating apartments combined with all the amenities one can only find in top-of-the-range hotels is an attractive proposition.”
