Fondazione Accademia Italiana joined the IAPH as an associate member.
Fondazione Accademia Italiana Della Marina Mercantile, founded in 2005 in Genoa, is a public institution that issues degrees from the Ministry of Education,
University, and Research in the field of non-university tertiary education, carrying out its activities through public and private funding and without lucrative purposes
Its mission is to provide specialized training aimed at occupations with high professional and technological content based on the needs of companies in the sectors concerned, particularly in the strategic areas of maritime and logistics.
The Fondazione Accademia Italiana Della Marina Mercantile di Genova trains every year 100 young people between those coming from the nautical institute and those from other higher institutes.
At the end of the course, which lasts two years, the students can present themselves to the maritime directorate and take the qualification exam with the qualification of a third officer.
Admission takes place by public selection and the number of cadets is decided each year in agreement with the shipowners on the basis of the forecast of the need for officers. For this reason, almost all of the cadets, at the end of the two years, one of which at sea with a regular salary, find work.
IAPH is a non-governmental organization (NGO) headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. In November 1955, some 100 world port leaders gathered in Los Angeles to announce the creation of IAPH.
Over the past six decades, IAPH has developed into a global alliance of ports, representing today some 160 ports and 120 port-related businesses in 87 countries. The member ports together handle well over 60% of the world’s sea-borne trade and over 60% of the world’s container traffic.
To make IAPH more relevant for its members and more widely promoted in the world port and maritime community, IAPH adopted a new Constitution in 2016. It was the first time in its history spanning over 60 years that the constitution was rewritten entirely to meet the demands of the day. It was no doubt an epoch-making event in its history.
IAPH aims to be the global trade association of choice for port authorities and operators, representing their interests at a regulatory level at the International Maritime Organization, the World Customs Organization, the International Standards Organization, and other global alliances such as the Global Maritime Forum and the World Economic Forum.
