On  Last Monday, 23 August 2021, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) managed to rescue crew members after a cargo ship encountered an incident of fire on board in the waters off Tabaco City, Albay.

The PCG has informed that the distressed vessel, MV Delwin Matthew ( , was operated and owned by Sherwin Shipping Corporation that is based in Milaor. During the fire incident, the vessel had about 22 crew members on board.
Based on the investigation reports, one of the crew members observed unusual smoke rising from the ship’s galley at around 8:45 am. The cargo vessel, at that point, was passing Barangay Salvacion, Tabaco City.

Authorities have identified a probable cause of the fire to be faulty electric wiring. The PCG said that crew members had tried combating the fire with an extinguisher. But it still reached the pilothouse.

On receiving this information, the PCG personnel immediately took assistance from the Bureau of Fire Protection or BFP. The fire was eventually extinguished around 11 am. No crew members had been injured during the incident.
The vessel MV DELWIN MATHEW ( MMSI 548040300) is a Cargo ship and currently sailing under the flag of Philippines.
