Lieutenant-General Osama Rabie meets the Danish ambassador to discuss ways of joint cooperation
Lieutenant-General Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority, received today, Thursday, Svend Olling, the Danish ambassador in Cairo, to discuss ways of joint cooperation, at the Al-Irshad building in Ismailia governorate.
At the beginning of the meeting, Lieutenant-General Osama Rabie welcomed the Danish ambassador to the Suez Canal Authority and expressed his pride in the extended cooperation and partnership relations that the Authority brings together with Danish companies working in the field of maritime transport, most notably the MAERSK International Shipping Line,
Stressing his keenness to open wider horizons for cooperation with successful partners in a way that contributes to Towards achieving common interests and serving the international shipping community.
The head of the authority indicated that the Suez Canal is working on implementing an integrated strategy for development aimed at developing the navigation course of the canal through the implementation of a promising development project in the southern sector of the canal in parallel with the efforts to raise the efficiency of the navigation services provided and the development of the maritime fleet of the authority to keep pace with the increasing growth in the movement of trade transiting the canal.
The head of the authority explained that the Suez Canal intends to grant incentives to environmentally friendly ships transiting the canal and to convert its marine units to work with clean energy in line with the efforts of the Egyptian state to confront the challenges of climate change by adopting environmentally friendly initiatives and practices that will be announced during its hosting of the COP 27 climate summit.
On other hand Ambassador Svend Olling, the Danish ambassador in Cairo, expressed his aspiration to strengthen cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority, allowing for the exchange of experiences and joint coordination to support international efforts aimed at reducing carbon emissions from maritime navigation by promoting the trend towards converting ships to work with environmentally friendly fuel as an alternative to traditional fuel.
The Danish ambassador praised the role played by the Suez Canal in supporting the sustainability of the global trade movement and its ability to face various challenges, praising the authority’s efforts in rescuing the giant Panamanian container ship EVER GIVEN in a record time in only 6 days, contrary to what was stated by experts and workers in the maritime field.
