MAN and AWS partner on marine sector digitisation
The CEON digital platform will offer repair guidance for marine and power engines.
MAN Energy Solutions has chosen Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver advanced analytics, machine learning, and the Internet of Things (IoT) for its CEON platform.
By connecting MAN equipment across different industries and geographies, the CEON digital platform will provide advice, condition-based maintenance, and repair guidance for marine and power engines, as well as turbochargers, turbines, compressors, and other connected equipment.
As its preferred Cloud provider, AWS is expected to help MAN implement its strategy to support customers in the marine, energy, and industrial sectors for addressing challenges related to decarbonization
This will be done through the enhancement of efficiency and performance of their assets at a ‘systemic level’.
Powered by machine learning algorithms, the CEON platform gathers and studies operating data.
It will facilitate real-time monitoring of marine or power plant engines, turbines, and compressors, which feature multiple sensors that constantly transmit data.
The process will allow MAN experts to identify malfunctions and problems at an early stage to help global customers efficiently operate and maintain their systems.
MAN Energy Solutions CEO Uwe Lauber said: “MAN CEON is the backbone of our developing digital-service business.
“By building the MAN CEON platform on AWS, we are able to leverage the latest machine learning and IoT managed services to improve our algorithms and scale our platform to customers globally.”
AWS IoT Greengrass and AWS IoT Core will be used by MAN to operate analytics and machine learning ‘on the edge’ for transferring data into the Cloud.
Amazon SageMaker is used to develop and constantly improve algorithms for predictive maintenance of the platform.
AWS business development and industries vice-president Kathrin Renz said: “By combining MAN Energy Solutions’ deep expertise in marine, energy, and industrial solutions with AWS’s leadership in analytics, machine learning, and IoT, customers will be able to reach new levels of operational efficiency.”
Last year in March, MAN received a contract to provide MAN B&W 7G80ME-GI (Gas Injection) Mk9.5 dual-fuel engines to ten very large crude carriers (VLCCs) belonging to Advantage Tankers, AET, and International Seaways.
