Visited MSC Leigh in Port of Antwerp in solidarity with our Montreal Dockers to Reclaim Lashing. ITF was assisted by the local Dockers Unions BTB and ACV to support the campaign.

Some background.
In Montreal, the ships crew are fully unlashing all the containers on a vessel before arriving alongside, and once the vessel is loaded it leaves and the seafarers are expected once again to lash the vessel underway. This practice goes on even through winter where temperatures regularly reach the -20’s Celsius even on the shore.
Some Seafarers have died while doing and performing this tasks… Fell over board in ice coldriver and lost their lives.
