Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, announced today, Wednesday, the progress of works on the project to develop the southern sector of the canal, with a completion rate of 40% for the project to expand and deepen the southern sector, and approximately 31% is the completion rate of the works of the dual canal project in the Lesser Bitter Lakes region.
During his inspection tour of the site of the project to develop the southern sector of the canal, accompanied by members of the board of directors of the authority, and the leaders working on the project, in order to follow up on the progress of work and determine the implementation rates of the project.
The Chairman of the authority stressed that the project to develop the southern sector of the canal is receiving periodic attention and follow-up from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the President of the Republic, due to its importance as a cornerstone towards implementing the strategy of developing the navigation course, which will witness a qualitative leap as the project contributes to raising the rates of navigational safety in the southern sector and increasing the canal’s absorptive capacity.
In that region, with 6 additional ships, which enhances the leading position of the Canal and its ability to meet the challenges of competition.
The Chairman of the authority stated that nearly 19 million cubic meters of saturated sand were removed from the project of duplicating the canal in the Lesser Bitter Lakes, from km 122 to km 132, numbering canal, and more than 7 million cubic meters of saturated sand were removed from the water in the expansion and deepening project. During his tour, Admiral Rabie inspected the site of the expansion and deepening project and was keen to greet the crews on the dredgers operating at the site, which include four dredgers belonging to the authority, namely the “Mohab Mameesh” dredger, the “Hussein Tantawi” dredger, the “Seddik” dredger, and the dredger “Tariq bin Ziyad.
Work and completion rates at the site of the dual canal project in the Lesser Bitter Lakes region, where the head of the authority was briefed on the latest developments in dredging work in the project, which is carried out by four dredgers: “Al Mirfa”, “Al Hamra”, “Al-Sadr” and “Casiobia”.
The chairman of the authority was briefed on the progress of the engineering and civil works that are carried out in the vicinity of the expansion project, where approximately 64% of the construction works of new coatings on the eastern side of the expansion work had been completed, and the rate of implementation of the ribat candles reached 46%, and the work of preparing sedimentation basins was almost completed by Achievement reached 91%.
