Discovery Princess has the capacity to accommodate 3,660 guests.

Carnival Group-owned cruise line Princess Cruises has taken delivery of its newest cruise ship, Discovery Princess.

The official handover ceremony was held at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

With this delivery, the Princess Cruises fleet has grown to 15 MedallionClass vessels.

With the capacity to accommodate 3,660 guests, Discovery Princess is the sixth and final Royal-Class newbuild.

It has been developed to share the style of its sister ships, Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess, and Royal Princess.

Discovery Princess features ‘world-class’ dining options as well as 270-degree views from the Sky Suites, which feature the largest balconies at sea.

The ship is also loaded with technologies to cut down fuel consumption as well as treat wastewater, backing the firm’s environmental compliance efforts.

Princess Cruises president John Padgett said: “We extend our immense gratitude to our long-time and trusted partners at Fincantieri, the shipbuilders of all six of our Royal-Class vessels with Discovery Princess, and look forward to welcoming our first guests to experience the beauty of the ship when they embark in just a few weeks.”

Discovery Princess will provide Princess MedallionClass Vacations, which uses Medallion wearable technology.

This quarter-sized device allows expedited contactless boarding, tracking down of people on the ship, and service delivery.

Now, Discovery Princess will leave Italy to operate on several Mexican Riviera and California Coast voyages between 27 March to 24 April.

Eventually, it will sail to the Pacific coast to commence a season of seven-day Alaska cruises from Seattle.
