Suez Canal records the highest monthly revenue in its history of $629 million during the month of April
(SCA ) Osama Rabie, chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, announced today, Sunday, that the navigation statistics in the canal during the month of April set new and unprecedented records throughout the history of the canal, achieving the highest monthly revenue in the history of the canal amounting to 629 million dollars, and the largest monthly net tonnage with total net tonnages of $ 114.5 million tons, exceeding all previously recorded figures.
The Chairman of the authority indicated that the navigation movement in the canal during the month of April 2022 witnessed the transit of 1929 ships from both directions compared to Crossing 1814 ships during the month of April of last year, with a difference of 115 ships, an increase of 6.3%, and the total net tonnage amounted to 114.5 million tons (the largest monthly net tonnage In the history of the canal) compared to 110.2 million tons in April of last year, a difference of 4.3 million tons, an increase of 3.9%.
He added that the Suez Canal revenues during the month of April of the Gregorian year 2022 recorded 629 million dollars as the highest monthly revenue in the history of the canal, compared to 553.6 million dollars in April of last year, a difference of 75.4 million dollars, an increase of 13.6%.
( SCA ) Rabie explained that the navigational reports during the month of April 2022 monitored a significant increase in the transit rates of various types of ships compared to the same month last year, as the number of tankers increased by 25.8%, and container ships transiting the canal increased by 9%, while the rate of increase of natural gas tankers was the issue was 12%, and the number of car carriers increased by 6.6%, which reflects the success of the authority’s marketing and pricing policies in gaining the confidence of the navigation community, attracting new shipping lines, and flexibly dealing with the changes occurring in the maritime transport industry.
The Chairman of authority revealed that the navigation statistics record a noticeable increase in the number and tonnage of ships transiting the canal since the beginning of this year, as the navigation movement in the canal from January to April witnessed the crossing of 7232 ships, compared to the crossing of 6,395 ships during the same period last year, with a difference of 837 ships, an increase 13.1%, while net tonnages across the canal increased during the period from January to April of this year by 6.5%, at 427.9 million tons, compared to 401.9 million tons during the same period last year, with a difference of 26 million tons.
He pointed out that Suez Canal revenues achieved a remarkable increase despite the various challenges. Navigation statistics during the period from January to April achieved $2.3 billion, compared to $2 billion during the same period last year, an increase of 18.4 percent, a difference of $360.4 million.
Rabie explained that the current indicators of the navigation movement in the canal give a clear indication of the vital role that the Suez Canal plays to ensure the sustainability and stability of supply chains despite the current global challenges, stressing that the full support and periodic follow-up from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Republic, to the Suez Canal and its development projects contributed effectively.
