Largest container ship “EVER ART” crosses the Suez Canal on its maiden voyage

Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, announced that the navigation movement in the canal witnessed today, Thursday, the crossing of the giant container ship “EVER ART”, the latest and largest container ship in the world,
On its first marine through the new Suez Canal within the convoy of the south on its journey coming from Malaysia and heading to The port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The ship “EVER ART” follows the shipping line “EVER GREEN”, and it is the sixth ship in a series of 12 giant ships under construction for the 24 A class. Its tonnage is 221,000 tons, and it can carry 24,132 containers on board.
The chairman of the authority directed that all necessary procedures and measures be taken to ensure the safe transit of the tanker by appointing a group of senior authority guides, and the provision of navigational aids from accompanying locomotives, in addition to immediate follow-up from the main traffic office and guidance stations along the channel.
EVER ART is the newer sister to SVEN. EVER ARM, EVER ACE, EVER ACT, EVER AIM, EVER ALP, All of which crossed the Suez Canal several times before, indicating that the canal is the first and most efficient choice among global roads and corridors.
The chairman of the authority stressed the readiness of the Suez Canal to receive the current and future generations of the fleet of container ships globally,
Pointing in this regard to the navigational and technical advantages offered by the new Suez Canal project in terms of increasing the numerical and absorptive capacity of the canal and raising the navigational safety factor, which had a great impact on enhancing its position. The leading channel of the Canal became the first destination and the ideal choice for transiting giant container ships working to transport global trade between East and West.
Admiral Rabie explained that the Suez Canal is keeping in mind the successive developments in the maritime transport industry, which are heading towards building giant ships with large submersibles,
Stressing that the authority is moving forward towards implementing the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to enhance the canal’s ability to provide the best service to its customers during the continuation of development projects in the canal,
We are working on the implementation of the project to develop the southern sector of the canal, which will contribute to increasing the navigational safety in that sector by 28% and increasing the discharge capacity by 6 new ships.
It is worth noting that, today, Thursday, 83 ships crossed the canal, with a total net tonnage of 4.8 million tons.
