WEST HARBOR MODIFICATION PROJECT ON THE LA WATERFRONT

Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka Interviews ILWU Leaders( Video )

SAN PEDRO, Calif.  – The Port of Los Angeles has released an Initial Study/Notice of Preparation (IS/NOP) — the first step in the environmental review process — for the West Harbor Modification Project on the LA Waterfront.

The proposed West Harbor Modification Project involves the development of an approximately 108,000-square foot outdoor amphitheater as well as an entertainment venue on approximately 2.5 acres in the southern portion of the former San Pedro Public Market Project site (now called West Harbor). The amphitheater would provide up to 6,200 seats and would host approximately 100 paid events per year, generally from April through November. The venue also could host smaller, local community, nonprofit, and sponsored events year-round.

The project would also replace a previously proposed 100-foot diameter Ferris wheel with an approximately 150-foot tall by 50-foot-wide tower attraction.

The Port will hold a virtual scoping meeting via Zoom to receive comments on the IS/NOP on Tuesday, May 3, at 5 p.m. No registration is required. Simultaneous Spanish translation services will be provided. Please use this link to join the meeting.

On another Side Filmed on the LA Waterfront, Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka joined International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) International President Willie Adams and ILWU Coast Committeeman Frank Ponce De Leon for a wide-ranging discussion on the key role labor plays in our nation’s cargo movement. The ILWU leaders discussed the perils dockworkers have faced working through COVID-19, upcoming contract negotiations, nationwide supply chain issues, and a range of other topics.

The Port of Los Angeles is America’s Port®—the nation’s #1 container port and the global model for sustainability, security, and social responsibility
