Jeddah Islamic Port enhances commercial traffic with Morocco with 6 shipping lines and services
Saudi ports record an increase in the volume of cargo handled by 16% during July 2022
Jeddah Islamic Port has taken active steps in promoting trade with the Kingdom of Morocco and supporting Saudi exports through 6 shipping lines and major services that have contributed to increasing the volume of trade exchange by 117%.
This comes within the strategic objectives adopted by the General Authority of Ports “Mawani” to contribute to raising the competitiveness of Saudi ports in terms of investment and logistics services, and to provide the necessary support to importers and exporters; In line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services to link the Kingdom’s ports with the world and consolidate its position as a global logistics center linking 3 continents.
Jeddah Islamic Port is considered the starting point for Moroccan ports due to its location within the global marine business network on the Red Sea coast, and its superior operational characteristics, as it includes 4 stations, and 62 multi-purpose berths with depths ranging from 7.5 m to 18 m, with a total area of up to 12.5 km², with an estimated capacity of 130 million tons.
It is noteworthy that the Jeddah Islamic Port, which is the first port on the sea coast in the field of transit maritime trade and transshipment of containers and goods; During the year 2021 AD, he succeeded in handling 60,589,238 tons of goods, and the number of handling containers reached 4,883,627 containers, while the transshipment containers for the same year amounted to 2,758,491.
On the other hand Saudi ports recorded during July 2022 an increase in the volume of cargo handled by 16% to reach 28 million tons, compared to 24 million tons in July 2021, according to the highest levels of efficiency and global operational and logistical capacity.
In the same context, general cargo increased by 45.4 percent to reach 718 thousand tons, and solid bulk cargo increased by 30.3% to reach 4.2 million tons, and liquid bulk cargo increased by 19.1%, achieving 16.3 million tons.
Moreover, Saudi ports received 95,000 passengers during the month of July of this year, an increase of 70% compared to 56,000 passengers in July 2021 AD, and 615,000 heads of livestock were unloaded with high efficiency and readiness.
