To limit and reduce the operational carbon intensity of vessels, the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) provides a rating of all ships as a measure of their efficient use of fuel in transport work.
The CII is addressed annually through issuance of a Statement of Compliance so that operational CII ratings must be assessed each year as limits for carbon intensity are progressively lowered over time.
The CII rating is applicable to specified vessel types of 5000 GT and above
