Lloyd’s Register Foundation delighted to be attending COP27 this year in Egypt to highlight the role of safety in creating a safe and sustainable ocean economy.
Lloyd’s Register Foundation is committed to raising awareness of safety related challenges in the ocean economy, building coalitions for change and funding programmes around the world to keep people safe from harm.
The ocean economy is booming with sea-based industries expected to double by 2030. As these industries expand rapidly, with challenges exacerbated by climate change, we need to embed high standards of safety to ensure the infrastructure that supports these ocean industries, and the people whose livelihoods depend on them, are kept safe from harm.
Joined by the Sustainable Ocean Alliance, WorldFish and Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Lloyd’s Register Foundation will host a discussion in the Resilience Hub at 12.30pm EET on 14th November on skills needed for a safe and sustainable ocean economy. World Risk Poll
The findings of the World Risk Poll Resilience Report ‘A resilient world? Understanding vulnerabilities in a changing climate’ will be on display in the Resilience Hub at various times throughout COP27.
Visitors to the interactive booth can discover the value of the data and how it can be used to inform and strengthen policy, explore the resilience index and view levels of resilience at a country level, through informative snapshots. Creating a safer maritime system

Lloyd’s Register Foundation and the Marrakesh Partnership will host a hybrid Futures Lab @ COP27 event: ‘Creating a consolidated global centre for a safer maritime system’, in the Resilience Hub at 6.15pm EET on 15th November.
Futures Labs will explore bold, imaginative ideas for systems change aimed at accelerating climate action and catalysing the transition to a regenerative and just world.
In this session, we will discuss how a global centre could catalyse safe and transformational change across the maritime system through international cooperation and ambitious action to create new, urgently needed solutions. Ocean safety data

Lloyd’s Register Foundation, Accenture and Hub Ocean will co-host an event in the UNFCCC Climate Action Hub at 2.30pm EET on 16th November to demonstrate the current and future potential of two actionable ocean data tools which businesses and investors can use to reduce risk and make better informed decisions about their ocean-related activities.
Nature positive engineering

Join this virtual event on 16th November at 3-4.30pm EET as part of the Virtual Ocean Pavilion which will run throughout COP27. During this session we will discuss the need for new engineering approaches in the ocean economy, including emerging ocean industries, climate change and coastal development, energy needs and marine biotechnology, to strengthen and protect natural capital.
