ٍSCA Admiral Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority, announced today, Sunday, the entry of the dredger “Tariq bin Ziyad”, one of the dredgers of the authority, to work on the canal expansion project within the project to develop the southern sector of the canal, bringing the total number of dredgers working in the project in both parts to eight, this came during his inspection To the navigation movement in the canal and to follow up on the developments of dredging work in the development project.

SCA Admiral Rabie confirmed that the project to develop the southern sector of the canal is proceeding at an accelerated pace according to the set timetable, in light of the periodic follow-up by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the President of the Republic, of the executive position of the development project due to his enjoyment.

Of great importance towards increasing the navigational safety factor in the southern sector by 28% and increasing the capacity of the canal in that area by an average of 6 additional ships.

The Chairman of the authority explained that the completion rates at the site of the duplication of the canal project in the Lesser Bitter Lakes region, from km 122 to km 132, the numbering of the canal amounted to 24%, with a total dredging quantity of 15 million cubic meters of sand saturated with water, while the total dredging rates at the site of the canal expansion project amounted to km 132 to 162 km about 5.7 million cubic meters of water-saturated sand, with a completion rate of 32%.

SCA Admiral  Rabie pointed out that the increase in the number of dredgers operating in the project to 8 will enable an increase in completion rates during the coming period, as four dredgers are currently working on the expansion and deepening project. Meanwhile, the dredgers “Al-Hamra”, “Al-Merfa”, “Al-Sadr” and “Casiobia” are participating in the project of duplicating the canal in the Lesser Bitter Lakes.

SCA Admiral Osama Rabie was keen to greet the crews working on the dredgers participating in the project to develop the southern sector in both parts and follow up on the developments of engineering and civil works in the vicinity of the expansion and deepening project, where the completion rate of the new cladding exceeded about 56%, and the work of preparing the sedimentation basins is close to completion, with a completion rate of 85%, and the completion rate of the new Rabat spark plugs exceeded 45%.
