The construction contract was officially signed on February 1, 2021 and will require an investment of approximately 40 million euros.
This first newbuilding (which will be built according to a second unit), built on the NB54 project of the Trieste-based company Naos Design and classified Rina, will have 8,300 gross tons, will be 110 meters long, almost 20 meters wide, the transport capacity is 800 passengers and 420 linear meters offer the garage hold.
The propulsion of this new ferry, as it was for the idirectional ship Elio, will be dual fuel diesel – LNG. More precisely, the engine will be ‘signed’ by Wartsila who supplied two 34Df dual fuel main engines, two 20Df dual fuel auxiliary engines, two Gvu (Gas valve units) as well as the so-called LngPac.
“It is a ship built with our own funds. We will build another 5 to be used in the Strait and in connections with the smaller islands “explained Caronte & Tourist announcing the signing of the order in the first months of 2021, specifying that this investment” is part of a fleet restyling and modernization program already in progress for years “.
The further new constructions that will arrive in the future will be used in the Trapani – Pantelleria connections and on the Porto Empedocle – Lampedusa connections.
