New representative Port of Rotterdam in Austria and Switzerland
After a career of 17 years as a Port of Rotterdam representative in Austria, Switzerland, and Central and Eastern Europe, Franz Zauner will hand over the baton to Mr. Howard Lamb on 1 January 2022.
Franz Zauner worked for the Port of Rotterdam Authority for 17 years and for over 30 years for Rotterdam-based logistics companies in the field of the short sea, deep sea, inland shipping, and rail transport, including 25 years as an independent entrepreneur. Zauner played an important role in setting up numerous rail connections between Rotterdam and Austria, such as the Hybrid Zug (a combination of ore and containers) and most recently the shuttle between Wolfurt and Rotterdam. Zauner has been the linking pin between the countries’ logistics sectors. The annual ‘Port of Rotterdam Trophy’ organized by Franz in Traben has become an event that attracts the entire Austrian logistics community.
Howard Lamb will be the personal contact for carriers, shippers, forwarders, industry associations, and authorities in Austria, Switzerland, CEE, and the Mediterranean region.
Expansion of relations
As Rotterdam Representative, Lamb will focus on the further expansion of relations in the region and will represent the interests of the Port of Rotterdam. Lamb has more than 35 years of international logistics experience. Prior to joining the Port of Rotterdam Authority, he worked for Maersk and InterRail AG, and in his last position, he was the CEO & Head of Logistics for MOL Austria Handels GmbH, a leading oil and gas company based in Hungary.
‘Especially in these challenging logistics times, choosing the best seaport with the right hinterland connections is vitally important to shippers and logistics service providers. With the continuation of our local representation, we can optimally support and assist customers with their logistics challenges. We are pleased to have found an excellent successor for Franz, and we would like to thank Franz for his relentless dedication and loyal service,’ says Matthijs van Doorn, Director Supply Chain & Logistics of the Port of Rotterdam Authority.
