NYK Stolt Tankers, the joint venture between NYK and Stolt Tankers, has placed an order with Nantong Xiangyu Shipyard in China for two parcel chemical tankers.

The vessels, scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029, will join the chemical tanker pool operated by Stolt Tankers. With this latest order, the company now has a total of eight chemical tankers under construction, including six vessels contracted from the same shipyard in 2024.

Parcel tankers are versatile chemical carriers designed to transport a wide range of cargoes, from chemical products to animal and vegetable oils. The newly ordered ships are large-scale chemical tankers, each boasting a cargo capacity of 38,000 tons. Measuring 184.9 meters in length, they will feature stainless steel cargo tanks capable of carrying diverse chemical products.

The vessels will also incorporate energy-saving features, including the capability to connect to shore-side electricity while berthed, underscoring the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

“As demand for renewable energy continues to rise in the drive toward a decarbonized society, chemical tankers able to transport sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable fuels, and related feedstocks are expected to experience consistent growth in demand,” NYK Group stated. “In response, NYK Group and Stolt Tankers are moving forward with the renewal and expansion of our chemical tanker fleet.”
