Rabie inspects the project to develop the southern sector of the Suez Canal
Removing 30 million cubic meters of saturated sand… and increasing the number of dredgers to 9.
ِAdmiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, announced the increase in the number of dredgers operating in the southern sector development project, in both parts, to 9.
Admiral Rabie pointed out that the dredger “Mashoor”, one of the dredgers affiliated with the Authority, returned to work on the canal expansion project to develop the southern sector of the canal, after the completion of the annual Umrah work at the dredger, which lasted 6 months at the Port Said Shipyard, stressing that the pace of work in the southern sector development project is proceeding at an accelerated pace.
According to the specified schedule in light of the increase in the number of dredgers operating in the project, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the President of the Republic, to continue working on developing the navigational course of the Suez Canal and maintaining the canal’s leadership as the fastest, shortest and safest navigational route.
Admiral Rabie explained that 30 million cubic meters of saturated sand were removed, as 22 million cubic meters of saturated sand were removed from the project of duplication of the canal in the Lesser Bitter Lakes from km 122 to km 132 numbering a canal, and 8 million cubic meters of sand were removed. Saturated water from the expansion and deepening project from the 132 channel numbering sleeve to the 162 channel numbering block.
During his tour, Rabie was keen to greet the crews working on the dredgers participating in the project to develop the southern sector in both parts, where five dredgers are currently working in the expansion and deepening project, namely the dredger “Mohab Mamish”, the dredger “Hussain Tantawi”, the dredger “Mashoor”, the “Seddik” dredger and the dredger Tariq bin Ziyad, while the dredgers “Al-Hamra”, “Al-Merfa”, “Al-Sadr” and “Casiobia” are participating in the project of duplicating the canal in the Lesser Bitter Lakes.
The Chairman of the authority was briefed on the percentage of completion of dredging works in the project, which amounted to 43.6% for the project to expand and deepen the southern sector, and approximately 35.5% is the percentage of completion of dredging works in the dual canal project in the Lesser Bitter Lakes region.
Approximately 69% of the new cladding works have been completed on the eastern side of the expansion works, the rate of implementation of the ribat candles has reached 50%, and the work of preparing the sedimentation basins is almost completed, with a completion rate of 92.5%.
