Sea trials passed for the new MSC Seascape ship built in Monfalcone
The new construction will leave the Fincantieri factory in Monfalcone in the autumn to reach New York where the baptismal ceremony will be held on 7 December.
The new cruise ship MSC Seascape successfully completed its first intensive navigation tests during sea trials which took place between 17 and 20 August. This was announced by MSC Cruises, recalling that this will be the fourth unit of the Seaside class and the second Seaside Evo built in Italy (Monfalcone) by Fincantieri.
Seaside Evo ships are an evolution of the innovative Seaside class and have special design features. With a gross tonnage of 169,400 tons, she will be delivered to MSC Cruises in late November and will offer year-round Caribbean itineraries departing from Miami. MSC Seascape will be the second ship to enter service in 2022, after MSC World Europa which will make its debut on the market a few weeks earlier.
“With the arrival of these two new ships, the MSC Cruises fleet will go from 19 to 21 units in a few months, and next May, with the baptism of MSC Euribia, it will reach 22″ underlines Leonardo Massa, managing director of MSC Cruises. “An increase in capacity that will further enrich our offer of destinations and itineraries available in all the seas of the world, and which testifies to the great confidence of MSC Cruises for the future”.
The Geneva-based company, “thanks to this unstoppable growth plan, will continue to climb market positions globally, leading the cruise sector with increasingly technologically advanced and increasingly environmentally friendly ships”.
MSC Seascape’s christening ceremony will be held in New York on December 7, 2022 at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. The new ship will offer two different seven-night itineraries, calling at Ocean Cay Msc Marine Reserve and Nassau in the Bahamas, San Juan in Puerto Rico and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, or with a stop at Ocean Cay Msc Marine Reserve, Cozumel in Mexico. George Town in the Cayman Islands and Ocho Rios in Jamaica.
MSC Seascape will be equipped with the latest environmental technologies including selective catalytic reduction systems on each of the four Wartsila 14V 46F engines to decrease nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90% by converting the gas into harmless nitrogen and water. The hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system will remove 98% of the sulfur oxide from its emissions.
Equipped with best-in-class wastewater treatment systems, with purification standards exceeding most land-based wastewater treatment plants, the ship also includes advanced waste management systems, ballast water treatment systems approved by the United States Coast Guard, latest generation systems for the prevention of oil discharges from machinery premises and effective energy efficiency improvements, from heat recovery systems to energy-saving LED lighting.
Finally, the company explains that the ship will be equipped with an underwater noise management system with the aim of minimizing the potential effects on marine mammals.
