Shipping company Terntank has placed orders for two LBG/LNG powered tankers at China’s AVIC
Shipping company Terntank has placed orders for two LBG/LNG powered tankers at China’s AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding.
The 15,000 dwt chemical/product/biofuels tankers will be capable to operate with liquefied biogas (LBG). They will be equipped with new electric power supply system including battery pack, shore-power connection and bow thruster drive (hybrid).
Designed by Kongsberg, the newbuilds would be deployed in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea in 2021.
Under the deal with AVIC, Terntank has an option to order two more vessels.
“With these AVIC SERIES 2.0 vessels Terntank continues its journey as the forerunner in environmentally efficient and safe shipping,” the company said, adding that the protection of the marine environment and maritime safety “have always been of top priority for Terntank.”
The vessels will be developed from experience of the previous AVIC SERIES with many additional innovative improvements to reduce environmental impacts. The new units will significantly reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impacts in the supply chain with LBG/LNG powered engines, hybrid battery systems and on-shore power, the company explained.
