Italy builds another 14 naval vessels for the Libyan police

Winner of the contract was the Roman company B-Shiver Srl

Italy is continuing to provide Libya with naval means to support its actions to combat illegal immigration. In addition to the refitted patrol boats, the endowment already given to the authorities of the country includes six inflatable boats made by Med Spa, to which we are now going to add another tranche of similar units that will be built by B-Shiver Srl.

The Roman shipbuilding company was in fact awarded last April (but the notice in the European Journal dates back to a few days ago) the relative tender that had been prepared by Invitalia on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior in March 2021, offering 6, 65 million euros on the 6,867 places on the basis of the tender.

In detail, the supply concerns 14 oceanic-type inflatable boats with rigid fiberglass keels of 12 meters, complete with 4-stroke outboard motors, intended in particular for the Libyan police.

The contract forms part of the intervention called ‘EU Emergency Trust Fund for stability and addressing root causes of irregular migration and displaced persons in Africa – North Africa Window’, whose financial coverage is ensured by the project called ‘Support to integrated Border and Migration Management in Lybia

– First Phase “in implementation of the ‘Delegation Agreement n.T05-EUTF-NOA-LY-04 / T05.213 of 15 December 2017, co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the” Trust Fund For Africa “. technical point of view, the contract concerns the construction of units with a length between 12 meters and 13.5 meters, capable of reaching a speed of at least 40 knots in conditions of sea state 3 and full displacement

Load, approved to carry 12 people between crew and passengers. Among its peculiarities, there is also the fact that the successful tenderer will undertake to provide “a familiarization course on the conduct of boats for Libyan personnel”, identifying “the suitable place for the course in its national territory”.
As mentioned, these 14 boats are added to the first six built by Med Spa, a Cervia-based company that in April 2020 was awarded a similar contract for ocean-type inflatable boats with rigid fiberglass keels, nine meters long and “ complete with 250 HP four-stroke outboard engines ”, offering 1.6 million euros out of the 2,451 based on the race.
