Marine Log is set to mark a major milestone in its longstanding commitment to spotlighting exceptional women in the maritime sector with the introduction of its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award. The honor will be presented during the upcoming Top Women in Maritime Celebration, scheduled for December 2 at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans—a prestigious setting befitting the significance of the occasion.
The newly established award aims to recognize individuals whose careers have left enduring contributions to the maritime industry—leaders who have shaped progress through visionary guidance, technological innovation, and a dedication to mentoring future generations. This year, Marine Log has chosen a figure whose name has become synonymous with excellence and resilience in American shipbuilding: Charlotte Bollinger, executive vice president and corporate secretary of Bollinger Shipyards.
A Legacy Built on Leadership, Growth, and Dedication
As the inaugural recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Charlotte Bollinger stands as a testament to decades of service and influence within one of the nation’s most respected shipbuilding and repair organizations. A native of Lockport, Louisiana, and a former educator, Bollinger joined her family’s business in 1984, working alongside her brother, Donald “Boysie” Bollinger. Together, they steered Bollinger Shipyards toward remarkable expansion, transforming the company into a premier builder and repairer of military and commercial vessels across the United States.
Throughout her tenure, Bollinger’s leadership has helped guide the company through periods of strategic growth, technological advancement, and evolving industry demands. Her contributions have not only strengthened the company’s legacy but have also played a pivotal role in shaping the broader U.S. maritime landscape.
During the ceremony, Charlotte Bollinger will be introduced onstage by her son, Ben Bordelon, president and CEO of Bollinger Shipyards, adding a personal and symbolic touch to the evening’s celebration.
Expanding the Mission of Recognizing Maritime Excellence
Marine Log’s Lifetime Achievement Award serves as an extension of the publication’s highly esteemed Top Women in Maritime Awards, which annually honors 20 outstanding women from diverse areas of the maritime field. These awards spotlight professionals who have demonstrated exceptional skill, leadership, and commitment—both ashore and at sea.
By adding the Lifetime Achievement Award, Marine Log aims to highlight the visionary individuals whose long-term dedication has helped advance the industry and pave the way for the next generation of maritime professionals.
A Growing Tradition of Recognition and Networking
Now in its second year as an in-person gathering, the Top Women in Maritime Celebration has quickly become a cornerstone event for industry professionals nationwide. This year’s ceremony—held on the eve of the International WorkBoat Show—will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on December 2. Attendees can expect an engaging evening combining formal recognition, networking opportunities, and a celebratory cocktail reception.
The event is more than an awards ceremony; it is a tribute to excellence, diversity, and progress within the maritime world. By bringing together trailblazers, rising leaders, and industry partners, the celebration underscores the essential role women play in every sector of maritime operations.
As Marine Log prepares to honor Charlotte Bollinger with the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award, the evening promises to be a powerful reflection of the industry’s past achievements—and a compelling reminder of the bright future being shaped by women across maritime professions.
