The Netherlands Coast Guard is set to strengthen its operational capabilities with the deployment of Enforcer, a Damen FCS 5009 variant, as an interim measure until a new generation of Coast Guard vessels enters service.

The vessel has been chartered by the Rijksrederij, a division of Rijkswaterstaat under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. It will be owned, operated, and crewed by the renowned Dutch towage company Multraship, while remaining under the operational command of the Coast Guard.

“We are very proud that the Coast Guard and Rijkswaterstaat/Rijksrederij have selected us for this mission,” said Leendert Muller, managing director of Multraship. “This partnership aligns perfectly with our current operations, and we are pleased to contribute to safety and security in the North Sea.”

The Enforcer benefits from Damen’s innovative Axe Bow design, developed in collaboration with Delft University of Technology, which allows the vessel to reach speeds of up to 27 knots even in challenging sea conditions. In addition to its high-speed performance, the vessel is equipped with towing and firefighting systems and will carry two high-speed tenders for inspection and enforcement duties at sea.

Multraship already provides the Rijksrederij with three Emergency Response and Towing Vessels (ERTVs), which are employed in emergency towage operations and a range of general coastguard tasks. The addition of Enforcer further enhances the Netherlands’ maritime response capacity and ensures operational continuity until the next-generation fleet becomes operational.
