At the DSEI 2025 defense exhibition in London, BMT introduced its latest vision for the future of amphibious warfare: the Ellida Strike multi-role warship concept.

Developed with the Royal Navy’s upcoming Multi-Role Support Ship (MRSS) program in mind, Ellida Strike offers a modern take on replacing ageing amphibious vessels with a new generation of versatile, technology-driven ships capable of adapting to a wide spectrum of missions.

While not presented as a direct MRSS proposal, the concept demonstrates how cutting-edge design philosophies, modularity, and advanced systems integration can support operations ranging from disaster relief to high-intensity combat.

A design built around adaptability

Ellida Strike incorporates lessons from recent defense reviews and aligns with the Royal Navy’s broader ambitions for flexible, forward-deployed commando operations. Its design emphasizes:

  • Scalable capability and modular systems, allowing containerized PODS to reconfigure the ship for roles such as medical support, logistics, command and control, or combat operations.

  • Integrated strike capabilities, including long-range precision missile systems that extend operational reach.

  • Combined air manoeuvre support, with facilities for both manned and unmanned rotary-wing aircraft.

  • A versatile well dock, enabling launch and recovery of landing craft and autonomous surface vessels—critical for amphibious assault and humanitarian missions.

The vessel is also built with crew welfare and efficiency in mind, featuring ergonomic layouts to improve personnel flow and onboard living conditions. At its core lies a digital backbone, designed to enhance connectivity, command-and-control, and adaptability to evolving threats.

Perspectives from BMT

Tim Neild CBE, BMT’s Head of Business Development for the U.K. & Europe, praised the concept:

“Having commanded a ship of this type, I can say with certainty that Ellida Strike is the kind of platform any naval officer would want. It’s engineered for mission success and embodies our support for the Royal Navy’s future amphibious ambitions.”

BMT’s Chief Naval Architect, Andy Kimber, added:

“Every line of this ship has been drawn with purpose. From propulsion to topside design, Ellida Strike is crafted to perform in any theater of operations.”

A platform for collaboration

BMT stresses that Ellida Strike is not a final product, but rather a foundation for dialogue as the Royal Navy refines its MRSS requirements. It highlights BMT’s commitment to partnership, innovation, and practical shipbuilding solutions that meet real-world demands.

“This concept is about demonstrating what’s possible,” Neild said. “It’s a credible vision that can evolve with the Navy’s needs and shows BMT’s readiness to help shape the next generation of amphibious capability.”
