Viking Mira, the latest ocean cruise ship for Torstein Hagen’s Viking (NYSE: VIK), was officially floated out today at Fincantieri’s Ancona Shipyard in Italy. The vessel is now entering its final outfitting stage and is scheduled to make its debut in spring 2026, offering itineraries across the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
The float-out ceremony was attended by Gilberto Tobaldi, director of the Ancona Shipyard, and Gastone Lazzari, Viking’s new building site team manager.
Weighing approximately 54,300 gross tons, Viking Mira will feature 499 staterooms and accommodate up to 998 guests, placing it within the small cruise ship category. The ship joins Viking’s ocean fleet, all of which are constructed by Fincantieri.
“In partnership with Fincantieri, we believe we have created the world’s most elegant fleet of small ocean ships,” said Torstein Hagen, Viking’s chairman and CEO. “The float-out of Viking Mira marks another key milestone in our expansion, and we look forward to welcoming her in 2026, offering even more opportunities for curious travelers to explore the world in Viking comfort.”
Viking and Fincantieri share a long-standing collaboration that currently encompasses 28 ships, including vessels delivered, under construction, on order, and under recently signed option agreements.
All Viking ocean ships are built to meet the latest international safety and navigation standards. They are powered by high-efficiency engines and equipped with advanced exhaust gas treatment systems to reduce environmental impact.
The Ancona Shipyard is one of Fincantieri’s most strategic production hubs, covering 360,000 square meters with a production capacity of 60,000 gross tons. It features lifting systems of up to 500 tons and can construct hulls weighing 1,200 tons per month. Since 2009, the site has delivered 20 vessels, thanks to the daily contributions of around 3,700 workers of diverse nationalities and generations, united by a shared industrial vision.
The shipyard is also a key participant in Fincantieri’s Operations Excellence program, which integrates advanced technologies, robotics, and artificial intelligence to boost efficiency and enhance work quality.
